About ProPublica

We are an independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism with moral force. We were founded in 2007 with the belief that investigative journalism is critical to our democracy. Our mission is to expose abuses of power and betrayals of the public trust by government, business, and other institutions. We use the moral force of investigative journalism to spur reform through the sustained spotlighting of wrongdoing. We dig deep into important issues, shining a light on these abuses, and we stick with those issues for as long as it takes to hold power to account. Our team of more than 150 dedicated journalists is committed to uncovering the truth, no matter how long it takes or how much it costs. We practice transparent financial reporting so our donors know exactly how their contributions are being put to work, with the vast majority of our expenses going directly into producing world-class, award-winning journalism.

Our work covers a wide range of topics, including government and politics, business, criminal justice, the environment, education, health care, immigration, and technology. We focus on stories that have the potential to create real-world impact. We're proud that our reporting has contributed to the passage of new laws, the reversal of harmful policies and practices, and has brought accountability to leaders at local, state, and national levels. Since our inception, we have been honored with numerous awards, including multiple Pulitzer Prizes, recognizing the quality and impact of our work. We believe in sharing our journalism freely and have collaborated with over 200 publishing partners to ensure our stories reach the widest possible audience. We remain dedicated to carrying forward the important work of exposing corruption and informing the public about complex issues, all in the service of a more just and transparent society.
