We are looking for an APJ People Business Partner Lead to serve as the primary strategic People partner to leaders across Asia-Pacific and Japan (APJ).
This role is responsible for deeply understanding the business, its growth strategy, and the unique dynamics across the region, and translating that understanding into proactive People and organizational strategy. The APJ People Business Partner Lead will help leaders anticipate organizational needs, identify risks and opportunities, and build the teams, leadership capability, and people practices needed to scale successfully.
The APJ People Business Partner Lead will work closely with regional leadership, the APJ People Operations Lead, and global People teams to shape and execute People strategy across the region. Success in this role requires strong business acumen, organizational judgment, and the ability to move beyond responding to leadership requests to independently identifying what the business needs.
Because APJ is a complex and diverse region, this person must be able to understand the different business and market dynamics across countries while maintaining a cohesive view of the region and its long-term organizational needs.
What you’ll do
STRATEGIC PEOPLE & BUSINESS PARTNERSHIP
- Serve as the primary People partner to APJ leadership, developing a deep understanding of the region's business strategy, operating model, growth plans, and organizational dynamics.
- Translate business priorities into proactive People and organizational strategies that enable the region to scale effectively.
- Bring an independent point of view to leadership discussions, identifying organizational opportunities and risks before they become larger business or employee issues.
- Partner with leaders on complex organizational decisions, helping them evaluate tradeoffs and make thoughtful decisions about how teams and leadership structures evolve.
- Build trusted relationships with leaders such that the People perspective is incorporated early in business and organizational planning.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRATEGY & EFFECTIVENESS
- Partner with APJ leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, role clarity, team effectiveness, and leadership capability.
- Assess how the region is structured and operating, identifying opportunities to improve organizational effectiveness as the business evolves.
- Identify patterns and systemic issues across teams and translate those insights into recommendations and action.
- Partner with leaders on performance management, talent strategy, succession, and the development of high-performing teams.
- Use workforce, talent, and organizational data to inform recommendations and influence leadership decisions.
PEOPLE STRATEGY & PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
- Shape and drive People strategies and programs that address the evolving needs of the APJ business.
- Partner with global People teams to adapt and translate company-wide programs to ensure they effectively support the realities of the region.
- Identify gaps in existing People programs and bring forward recommendations for new approaches or improvements.
- Drive adoption and effectiveness of People initiatives within APJ, ensuring programs translate into meaningful outcomes for the business and its people.
- Bring regional insights back to the global People organization to influence broader People strategy and program design.
PARTNERSHIP WITH PEOPLE OPERATIONS
- Partner closely with the APJ People Operations Lead to ensure strategic People priorities and regional operational execution are aligned.
- Bring business context and emerging organizational needs into regional operational planning.
- Work together on complex employee situations, organizational changes, and regional requirements where both strategic partnership and operational expertise are needed.
- Ensure insights from operational trends and regional challenges inform broader People and organizational strategy.
GLOBAL PARTNERSHIP & INFLUENCE
- Act as a bridge between APJ leadership and the global People organization, ensuring regional perspectives and business needs inform company-wide People strategies.
- Partner across People, Finance, Recruiting, Compensation, and other functions to align organizational and talent priorities with business needs.
- Influence stakeholders across geographies and functions to drive alignment and outcomes in a global, distributed environment.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
- Significant experience in senior HR Business Partner or People leadership roles, ideally supporting complex, high-growth businesses across APJ.
- Demonstrated ability to develop a deep understanding of a business and translate business strategy into proactive People and organizational strategy.
- Strong experience in organizational design, workforce planning, organizational effectiveness, talent strategy, and leadership partnership.
- Proven ability to influence senior business leaders and bring an independent, well-informed point of view to complex decisions.
- Demonstrated pattern recognition and judgment, with the ability to identify organizational risks and opportunities before they become visible problems.
- Experience developing or adapting People programs to meet business needs and driving adoption and measurable outcomes.
- Strong business acumen and curiosity, with a genuine interest in understanding how the business operates and what drives success.
- Experience working across global and distributed organizations, ideally with exposure to the complexity and diversity of APJ markets.
- Strong relationship-building and influence skills across cultures, functions, and geographies.
- Comfortable operating independently in ambiguity and creating direction within their scope rather than waiting for direction.
